Money making ideas

Filed under: Birding, Computers, General, Humor — Jim @ 3:29 pm

In this mini-depression lots of folks are out-of-work, others are enduring hour and wage cuts. Many of these people are facing the time limit on receiving unemployment payments. But there is money out there just waiting to be claimed by anyone.

Individuals, companies and government agencies are all offering incentives/rewards for all sorts of things. Check out this list that I put together:

NASA is always offering up challenges for new ideas:
Nasa.gov
There is a $50,000 reward for locating a woodpecker:
ibwo.org
Microsoft is offering up $250,000 (that’s right, a quarter million) for info on the a-holes that unleashed a virus on the world:
Microsoft.com
Or you could report your ex-employer for software piracy – the reward is up to $1,000,000 (one million):
bsa.org

And if you hang out with the wrong crowd there are always lots of rewards offered up to help solve crimes. Some are offered by the police others by those that were wronged.

Nelly offers up $10,000 reward to catch burglers
US Fish and Wildlife offers $10,000 for info on shooting of Whooping Crane

Perhaps a bit dated but still a funny joke

Filed under: General, Humor, Politics — Jim @ 8:44 am

He’s been out of office (and the public eye) for a while now but I just had to share this joke:

President Bush was sitting at his desk in the oval office when the Secretary of War walked in…

How goes the war in Iraq”, asked Pres. Bush

“Terrible”, said the Secretary of War, “Six Brazilian Soldiers were killed today”

“My, that is terrible news”, replied President Bush

As the Secretary of War was leaving President Bush picked up the phone and called Condalezza Rice…

“Connie”, he said, “How many is a Brazillion”?

Batman and Robin
While making use of Google to find a reference to the original Batman TV show I happened to run across the Landover Baptist Church’s discussion forums. If you have any sense of humor at all, please spend some time there!

Squirrels

Filed under: Birding, General, Humor — Jim @ 8:02 am

With my ongoing battle against squirrels taking advantage of food intended for birds I thought that this little video was hilarious! I have a feeder that spins when a squirrel tries to get to the food (they have learned to just stay away from it).

BTW … my capture and release program is still doing great. There are only a couple of tree rats that still come around and they remain on the ground rather than climbing up on the feeder.

Immigration quotas

Salma Hayek - Mexican immigrant
It’s funny but it’s true at the same time – below is a post made by someone going by the name of BlackFive:

Here is a hypothetical situation: You are the new Director of the INS. Imagine you had a quota – say 100 new immigrants per day to allow into the USA. When allowing people into the country, you have to choose between Mexicans and Arabs/Muslims, and you ask yourself the following questions:

    1. Travel: When looking up at the sky, upon seeing an airplane, do I worry that some crazy Mexicans have just hijacked it?

    2. Weaponry: When at the hardware store, do I worry about the Mexicans buying box cutters for a use other than cutting boxes?

    3. Quality of Life: Do I like Tequila more than…more than…oh well, do I like Tequila?

    4. Jihad: Most Mexicans are Catholic, right? Has the Pope or any of his minions recently declared Jihad on America? Has Vicente Fox recently declared Jihad? Hhhhm…How about Salma Hayek? Mmmm…Salma.

    5. Salma: Thinking of Salma, would you rather have Salma Hayek enter the country or …?

Ponder these questions, and I believe you’ll see why I am all for Mexicans…let ‘em in I say.

Microwave kitty

Microwaved kitty
I’m sorry if anyone takes offence but it is FUNNY! Don’t get me wrong, I would never hurt a cat nor do I condone anyone else harming an animal but the thought of this cat innocently posing inside a microwave oven just strikes me as funny and worth sharing.

Thank you!

Filed under: General, Humor — Jim @ 11:12 am

I was totally unprepared and I don’t know what to do about it … my phone hasn’t stopped ringing, my email inbox is flooded, TV news crews line the street outside my home.

It all really did come as a complete surprise – and I am still in shock. Me! named Time magazine’s “Person of the Year”. I’m not going to say I don’t deserve it … I do. But I really can think of many others that deserve it just as much … not that I have any plans to give it up!

Thank you Time magazine – But I still will not subscribe to your rip-off cable services!

Who’s lying now?

Filed under: Complaints, General, Humor, Politics — Jim @ 5:55 pm

President Clinton attempted to deny accusations by redefining the English language. “I did not have sex with Monica”. That is assuming that getting a blow job isn’t sex!

Now President Bush is doing the same. The United States does not use torture … we just use “enhanced interrogation techniques” (his own words).

Politicians are, in large part, nothing but a bunch of expert liars! Bush is absolutely no better than Clinton … indeed he may be worse. At least Clinton’s lies didn’t draw us into a war that has now cost over 2600 American lives and doesn’t have an end in sight.

A few smiles …

Some people are like slinkies –
Not good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

Political Humor

Islam PR
The recent flap over a collection of cartoons that were originally published in Europe supposedly depicting the Prophet Muhammad and Islam in an unflattering light is well summed up with the above political cartoon.

For those wondering what the whole mess is about, the original cartoons may be seen here: http://www.faithfreedom.org/Gallery/Mo_Cartoons.jpg In my book, they are absolutely nothing to get excited about. Even more images of Mohammed can be seen by clicking on this link: http://www.zombietime.com/mohammed_image_archive/

Calvin and Hobbes - snowmen
I don’t know how international the appeal of the Calvin and Hobbes comic strip was but its writer and illustrator, Bill Watterson, frequently had the impish Calvin create snowmen while out and about in winter. And seeing as it is now the season of snow (here in the northern hemisphere anyway) and we even have a bit of snow in the forecast here in Raleigh, I thought I would present some of the better strips Watterson produced that were of this theme.
