Coronary Artery Bypass Operation

Filed under: General, Health — Jim @ 8:36 pm

Sometimes referred to as a CABG (cabbage) procedure, this is what I experienced on the 19th of October 2005 at Rex Hospital here in Raleigh. The following is a synopsis of what I went through along with a few photos to make it a little less boring!

Just a quick note to say that I made it out of the hospital yesterday after what turned out to be a double bypass. More to come later (including photos!)

Forced Vacation – aka: Coronary Bypass

Filed under: Complaints, General, Health — Jim @ 8:15 am

A while back I mentioned that I was due to go into the hospital for another angioplasty. It didn’t happen exactly as planned. I went in, but after my cardiologist looked around a bit, he decided that the affected area of the artery was beyond help as far as an angioplasty went. He came by my recovery room and said that he recommended a bypass operation. He set me up an appointment with the surgeon for the following day.

So, Wednesday morning at 5:30am I am scheduled to check into the hospital to have my chest split open down the middle. They will put me on a heart-lung machine and stop my heart from beating. I’m not very happy about it!

New Orleans Police Beating

Filed under: Complaints, General — Jim @ 6:38 am

The recent beating of a man by members of the New Orleans police department was simply horrible. These officers not only gave this man a black eye (among other injuries) but their apparent actions give all police officers everywhere a black eye. They should be punished far beyond what would be the punishment for the simple assault that they are charged with.

3rd Anniversary

Filed under: Friends and Acquaintances, General — Jim @ 6:55 am

Yesterday was Gabino’s and my 3rd anniversary of living together! He surprised me with roses before I even got out of bed in the morning. In the evening we went out to a nice restaurant for dinner. I hope we celebrate many more such anniversaries!

Jeopardy

This last weekend, the TV game show Jeopardy was here in Raleigh recording its college week shows. On Sunday afternoon, Gabino and I went and watched 3 of the shows. It was all setup at the NCSU basketball arena (which does double duty as the Carolina Hurricanes’ hockey rink). A good sized and very enthusiastic crowd was there to watch the activities. It is amazing how much goes into such a production – lights – stage props and backgrounds – sound – cameras. It was a fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Highland Games

Filed under: General, Hobbies, Photography — Jim @ 8:01 am

On Saturday I drove a couple of hours down to Red Springs, North Carolina for the Flora Macdonald Highland Games. My partner, Gabino, had to work so I was on my own. It was a very nice day and, just for fun, I drove down some back roads instead of using the interstate and used still another set of back roads on the way back.

The games were my first Scottish gathering and it was a great chance to take photos of people without any protest from them. Most that were there in their kilts wanted to be photographed. There were also 3 pipe and drum groups that were great photographic subjects. There was even a sheep dog demonstration!

A few of my favorite shots from the day are HERE.
