Seaman Family Genealogy

Filed under: Genealogy, General, Hobbies — Jim @ 7:00 am

David Seaman (1807-1869) - My great-great grandfather
Last November I made an entry here on my blog about starting to research my Seaman family history. I have continued with that project and accumulated quite a bit of information and documentation. From John Seaman (aka Capt. John) who came here from England in 1630 to Caleb Seaman who migrated from NY to Canada (after supporting the crown during the Revolution) to James Seaman (my great-grandfather) who migrated to Nebraska from Canada in the 1870’s.

The basic outline of the family tree wasn’t that hard to track down. It seems that everything is on the Internet these days! The difficult part has been filling in the details and tracking down documentation.

Juvenile Ruby-throated Hummingbird at Mexican Shell Flower - JC Raulston Arboretum - Raleigh, NC
It has been a record year around my house for Ruby-throated Hummingbirds! They have been busy trying to keep the feeders empty and challenging anything and anyone who even approaches the feeders.

Vernon Robinson – A Black Jesse Helms?

Filed under: General, Politics — Jim @ 12:52 pm

I had respect for Jesse Helms – not that I ever agreed with Senator Helms, but I had respect for his opinions. His political positions were his true convictions … not positions he took simply for political gain. I believe that Vernon Robinson is a dangerous person. He has repeatedly tried (and failed) to gain political position by playing on peoples’ fears. He caters to the worst of American society … the ultra conservatives and the knee jerk reactionaries. Those who believe that their way is the only way and that the laws of this nation should restrict everything that they don’t like.

Robinson is running for a seat in the US House … a seat for a North Carolina district where he doesn’t even live! And to top that … only 20 percent of the donations for his campaign have come from North Carolina! This is a true politician … out to win regardless. If someone like this were to win he would not be in Washington to represent the residents of his NC congressional district but rather to represent the fringe elements from all over the country who contributed to his campaign.

I like to think that the people here in my district will not fall for his antics but some times I worry. This one must be stopped!

Who’s lying now?

Filed under: Complaints, General, Humor, Politics — Jim @ 5:55 pm

President Clinton attempted to deny accusations by redefining the English language. “I did not have sex with Monica”. That is assuming that getting a blow job isn’t sex!

Now President Bush is doing the same. The United States does not use torture … we just use “enhanced interrogation techniques” (his own words).

Politicians are, in large part, nothing but a bunch of expert liars! Bush is absolutely no better than Clinton … indeed he may be worse. At least Clinton’s lies didn’t draw us into a war that has now cost over 2600 American lives and doesn’t have an end in sight.
