Yet Another Year Passes …

Filed under: General — Jim @ 8:52 pm

2007 is Here
Today is the last day of 2006. And, as the song goes, Another One Bites the Dust.

Compared with last year this has been a nice quiet year. No life changing events. Rather boring actually – and that isn’t a complaint, last year was too eventful!

This year didn’t see any health issues, it did see a couple of nice vacations – Florida in January and a trip to South Dakota in May. I attended a family reunion of my father’s family while in South Dakota and in August a reunion of my mother’s family (Lupton). Amazingly, my dog (now 15 years old) is still around – a good bit slower and having hip problems but he keeps going. Gabino and I are now happily in our fifth year together.

However, not all was good. I did lose an uncle and, very shortly after his death, his wife passed as well. The uncle was the last of my mother’s siblings still living.

I got involved with working some for the campaign of Representative Brad Miller, who thankfully won re-election. I stayed very busy working on my Seaman Family Genealogy website. I made it through a second year without smoking (more of a task than you may think!)

And tonight, just like last year at this time, Gabino and I are going out clubbing to celebrate the New Year. Hopefully 2007 will be a great year for everyone and, with luck, will bring an end to the war in Iraq.

Thank you!

I was totally unprepared and I don’t know what to do about it … my phone hasn’t stopped ringing, my email inbox is flooded, TV news crews line the street outside my home.

It all really did come as a complete surprise – and I am still in shock. Me! named Time magazine’s “Person of the Year”. I’m not going to say I don’t deserve it … I do. But I really can think of many others that deserve it just as much … not that I have any plans to give it up!

Thank you Time magazine – But I still will not subscribe to your rip-off cable services!

Hard at Work on My Genealogy Site

Filed under: Genealogy, General, Hobbies — Jim @ 7:54 pm

I really have been busy on my Seaman family genealogy website at www.seamanfamily.net. The site now contains information on over 3000 of my relatives. I’ve also added a lot of new general interest material that is accessible to unregistered users.

Some of that info is:
The United Empire Loyalists of Canada
The Seamans of Drummond Island, Michigan
And, of course, an updated chart of descendants of Caleb Seaman (just four generations)

This work in genealogy, aside from teaching me a lot about my family roots and my living relatives, has been teaching me a lot of geography and general history as well. It is a very worthwhile and entertaining hobby!

I’ve been ignoring my blog again!

Gee! It’s been over a month since I’ve posted – not good.

A lot has been happening. That nasty Vernon Robinson was shown that the people of North Carolina don’t want his kind of fear mongering. He was soundly defeated by Brad Miller. And, as a disclaimer, I have to admit I donated my time and money to Congressman Miller’s campaign.

For that matter, a lot of Republicans all over the country were shown that they are no longer wanted! Going to be some interesting changes in this country over the next few years.
